Quebec City - Day 1

After a long travel day and great night’s sleep in our hotel room, the first full day in Quebec City did not start well for me. We woke and dressed as planned, but I didn’t get 10 steps out the hotel room door before my stomach committed mutiny.

Long story short, on our first day in a new country, Jen navigated Quebec City, Canada, on her own. She found a local pharmacy, purchased meds for me, ate breakfast and lunch out, toured around town, and generally established her bearings, all while I stayed in the hotel room alternating between sleep and being angry at my weak constitution.

After more than one dose of Imodium and a feeling somewhat confident that the rebellion had finally been quelled, I ate a simple but tasty vegetarian sandwich on a French baguette that Jen was kind enough to bring me. I was finally ready to venture out and enjoy Canada in the daylight!

Quebec City is home to several working churches, both Catholic and Protestant, that are open to tourists during non-worship hours. Not Catholic myself, it was interesting to see their ornate, even opulent, interiors, a sharp contrast to their comparatively unassuming exteriors.

Quebec City is very walkable, the cool summer temperatures making street vendors and open-air seating at restaurants very enticing to tourists.

I didn’t take a lot of photos on our first full day in Quebec City. Like I said, I was only able to venture out for half the day, and I was still trying to find my rhythm. On the whole, even though Quebec City is very picturesque, I had trouble dialing it in photographically.

After a great half day of touring Quebec City and dinner at Savini, we returned to the boardwalk for an evening stroll. It was another lovely night with great company and nice weather.

Having switched to my 50mm lens after dropping my backpack off at the hotel, I had to go halfway down the boardwalk to get the entire chateau in the frame. It is a seriously huge building.

The banding in the night sky is due to how my website provider converts images on upload. It’s the first time I’ve encountered this issue, and I’m not happy about it.
